Pediatric Services

The pediatrics program at SOCH focuses on emergency care, same-day surgical procedures, and outpatient services. The Hospital offers the latest diagnostic technology and medical procedures for kids and delivers warm, personalized, cheerful care to our pediatric patients and their families.

Newborn Care
Many new parents experience the Pediatric Program at SOCH when their child is delivered in the Hospital's Maternity Pavilion. Once a child is born in the Maternity Pavilion, pediatric care begins with a thorough examination of the newborn by a board-certified hospital pediatrician to ensure there are no immediate health problems. Part of this careful examination includes advanced newborn screening for more than 60 rare birth defects that, if detected and treated early, can prevent serious health problems in children and potentially save lives.

New and expectant parents and their little ones also benefit from a team of board-certified specialists, including pediatricians, neonatologists, and  pediatric cardiologists on staff at the Hospital. In addition, maternity nurses provide help counseling new parents with information on breast feeding and performing basic newborn care.

Southern Ocean Pediatric Associates
The pediatricians and nurse practitioners at Southern Ocean Pediatric Associates provide comprehensive care for children from newborn through adolescence.  The office is located adjacent to SOCH on the 3rd floor of the  Medical Arts Pavilion, Suite 304.  Convenient office hours include Saturdays, Sundays and most holidays.  To schedule an appointment call 609-978-9639

Pediatric Emergency
The Emergency Department regularly handles hundreds of pediatric emergencies every month and features a specialized pediatric treatment room that helps reduce the trauma children may feel during a visit to the emergency room. The physicians and nurses working in the Emergency Department are specially trained for pediatric medical emergencies and help calm children while providing compassionate, state-of-the-art care. In addition, our pediatricians respond to pediatric emergencies that arrive in the Emergency Department.

Pediatric Surgery
Pediatric surgery is regularly performed in the Hospital's operating rooms on a same-day basis to treat a variety of illnesses and injuries, including sports injuries and other wounds. Pediatric patients benefit from the skill of anesthesiologists who come to SOCH thanks to a partnership with the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Group. In addition, the Hospital's Medical Staff includes specialists in orthopedic surgery and ear, nose and throat, who regularly treat pediatric patients.

Prevention and Wellness Program
In addition to pediatric clinical services, The SOCH Family Resource Center offers a number of community-based programs that focus on disease prevention and wellness in our pediatric population.  Program topics include smoking prevention, childhood obesity, biking safety and internet safety.
