The pain management program at SOCH comforts
people recovering from surgical pain, as well as those seeking
relief from the relentless effects of chronic pain.
Pain management specialists on the medical staff
of SOCH, received specialized trained to treat all types of pain.
The program focuses on offering a wide range of treatment options
ranging from conservative drug therapies, epidural anesthesia and
minimally invasive nerve stimulation techniques performed in the
Interventional Center
at SOCH. These are used to treat:
Chronic knee pain caused
by nerve entrapment: Treated with a common peroneal nerve block with nerve stimulation
and ultrasound guidance
Migraine headaches: Treated
with an injection in the base of the skull to numb the nerves
Cervical neck pain caused
by arthritis of the cervical spine: Treated
with a nerve block injection
Shooting arm pain caused
by a pinched nerve: Treated with a cervical
epidural
Chronic arm and neck pain: Treated
with cervical spinal cord stimulation
Lower back pain: Treatment involves injection of local anesthetics,
steroids, or narcotics into affected soft tissues, joints, or nerve
roots to more complex nerve blocks and spinal cord stimulation
SOCH Pain Management Specialists
Ashraf Sakr, MD is a board-certified specialist in pain management
who received his medical degree from Zagazig University Faculty
of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt, where he also earned a master’s
degree in general surgery. He completed a pain management fellowship
and a residency in anesthesia at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical
School. Dr. Sakr did a residency in family medicine at St. Mary’s
of Nazareth Hospital and an internship in obstetrics and gynecology
at Flushing Hospital Medical Center. He is board-certified by
the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of
Pain Management. |

Michael Yu, MD is a board-certified specialist in pain management
who received his medical degree from Ross University School of
Medicine. He completed a pain management fellowship at Columbia
Medical Center College of Physicians. He completed a residency
in anesthesia at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of
New Jersey and an internship in internal medicine at Long Island
College Hospital. He is board-certified by the American Board
of Anesthesiology. |
